Kim's game online

Kim's game is the old memory game from Rudyard Kipling's novel Kim: look at a set of objects, then say everything you saw. Here the objects are in a street scene. Study it for 20 seconds, then tap everything that was there. Some of the choices weren't, and every missed or extra tap counts.

What it asks about

Each question is about one kind of detail. Here's the habit that catches each:

A test tells you where you are. Two minutes a day moves it: Clue Catch's daily decks bring back the kinds of detail you miss (plates, counts, what people carried) more often than the ones you catch.

Questions

What is Kim's game?

A memory and observation game named after Kipling's 1901 novel Kim, in which the boy hero is trained by being shown a tray of jewels, then asked to describe them. It's a staple of scouting and of observation training generally.

How do you play Kim's game on your own?

You need someone to set out the objects, or a page like this one: study the scene for 20 seconds, then pick out what was in it. Three rounds take about two minutes.

How can I get better at it?

Name every object in a word as you sweep across the picture from left to right. A thing you named is far more likely to come back than a thing you only saw.
